STATE SENATOR JOHN LIU ANNOUNCES MURAL PROJECT AT THE UNION STREET FIREHOUSE

Flushing, NY — State Senator John Liu today joined firefighters at FDNY Engine 273/Ladder129 company on Union Street, Flushing, to announce plans for a mural project for the front gate of the firehouse. The mural will depict the FDNY’s proud history and the rich and diverse character of the community served by the engine and ladder company. The project was jump-started by a $3,000 donation from bb.q Chicken, a franchise from South Korea. Senator Liu and members of the firehouse presented a certificate of appreciation to bb.q Chicken for their contributions to the community.

As a young child, State Senator Liu would often join his brothers and friends outside that Union Street firehouse to watch Long Island Railroad trains pass underneath while hoping to hear the firehouse bells go off, signaling that the gate would open to release the glimmering fire trucks. Liu stated, “A new mural on the firehouse gate is sure to beautify this local landmark and inspire generations to come. Moreover, it celebrates the proud history of New York’s bravest and the over a century of service this firehouse has provided to the Flushing community. Much thanks to bb.q Chicken for contributing to Engine 273/Ladder129’s vision of giving back and brightening up our neighborhood.”

Joshua Lee, director of bb.q chicken USA, stated,As a proud member of the community, we’re honored to support the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) with this contribution. From their heroic actions on 9/11 to their daily efforts to keep us safe, we owe the FDNY our deepest gratitude for their dedication to serving our community.”

Captain Paul Agruso, FDNY Ladder 129, stated,The officers and members of Engine 273 and Ladder 129 are deeply grateful to bb.q Chairman Yoon Hong Geun for this generous donation, which will help us create a mural that truly reflects the spirit of the FDNY and the strong bond we share with our community. This mural will not only honor the bravery of the men and women who serve but will also stand as a symbol of pride and unity for all those who pass through our doors. We look forward to sharing this meaningful artwork with the community, and we thank the Senator and Chairman for recognizing the importance of this project.”
