August 12, 2024
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, today presented a New York State Senate Empire Award to Unadilla MX in New Berlin.
The Empire Award recognizes businesses that are leaders in their industry, use innovative methods or products, increase jobs and economic growth and make significant community contributions.
Unadilla MX is the oldest venue in American motocross and has hosted races in the scenic Unadilla Valley for more than five decades. Each August, the legendary facility becomes the global center for the sport of motocross with the annual Unadilla National, one of the longest running rounds of the prestigious AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Athletes and spectators from around the world converge at the hallowed grounds of Unadilla MX for a one-of-a-kind battle of man and machine that is recognized as arguably the toughest discipline in all of motorsports.
The facility generates a significant economic impact for the region and supports a variety of nonprofits and charitable organizations. Sen. Griffo has helped to address ongoing challenges related to putting on an event of this size.
In addition to the Empire Award, Sen. Griffo also presented track officials with a New York State Senate Resolution recognizing the venue’s 55th anniversary.
“It is an honor to present a New York State Senate Empire Award to Unadilla MX and to recognize its significant anniversary,” Sen. Griffo said. “Jill and Greg Robinson have done an exceptional job carrying on their family’s legacy, supporting their community, growing the local and regional economy and bringing positive attention to the region. I wish Unadilla MX much continued success.”
“We are honored to welcome New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo to the Unadilla National,” said Jill Robinson, Unadilla MX co-owner. “We have been hosting events since 1969, but the Pro Motocross round is our crown jewel as it brings the entire racing world here to New Berlin and throughout Central New York. We have always strived to be an integral part of the community and it’s truly a special moment to be recognized for our 55 years of racing with the New York State Senate Resolution and the distinguished Empire Award.”
During his time in the Senate, Sen. Griffo has advocated for and supported the needs of business owners and employers throughout his Senate District and New York State.
“We have to do more in New York to improve the state’s economic climate and to make it more business-friendly,” Sen. Griffo said. “This can be accomplished by lowering taxes and energy costs and reducing regulations. I will continue to be a strong voice in Albany for taking such action and for our businesses so that they can grow, create jobs and be successful in New York State.”
