Griffo urges Legislature to act on veteran tax relief legislation
October 28, 2024
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C- Rome, today called upon the Legislature to work together to pass a bill that would provide significant tax relief to certain veterans in the state.
Sen. Griffo was joined by Sean Mutton, a local veteran, and Joseph Fraccola, commander of the CNY Chapter 490 Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Senate Bill 2028-A, which Sen. Griffo cosponsors, provides a complete real property tax exemption for the primary residence of a veteran with a 100% service-connected disability, where the property is owned by the veteran and his or her spouse.
The tax exemption applies to any real property taxes imposed by a county, city, town, village or school district.
The legislation has been introduced since 2019 and passed several times by the Senate. The Assembly companion bill (A.2965-A) is in committee.
“We are forever grateful to all those who served our great nation in the military,” Sen. Griffo said. “Disabled veterans likely face significant challenges, financial and otherwise. They deserve relief. This bill will help alleviate some of the financial pressures that they and their families experience and increase their quality of life. It is the least we can do to say, ‘thank you.’”
