Public libraries to receive construction grants in Sen. Griffo’s district

- Library Construction Grants
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, reported today that several public libraries in his Senate District will be receiving library construction grant funds.
The funds are from $34 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the 2023-24 State Budget.
Grants awarded to libraries in the 53rd Senate District include:
- South New Berlin Free Library: $59,787 for the final phase (interior, flooring, trim, paint, electrical, cabinets) of community room addition project with ADA restroom and easier museum access.
- Canastota Public Library: $12,000 to replace three air conditioning units, one for each floor, with new energy efficient units.
- Cazenovia Public Library: $34,950 to replace the deteriorated roof of the original library building
- Dunham Public Library: $452,069 to construct phase one of the second story expansion.
- Hamilton Public Library: $151,736 to replace alarm system and components and current roof with 2-ply modified bitumen roof system.
- Kirkland Town Library: $13,704 to install a window in storage area to convert to office space and to renovate second floor fire escape.
- Mid York Library System: $48,027 to create a new entrance, upgrade interior lighting, combine two offices into one and replace A/C rooftop unit.
- New Woodstock Free Library: $63,731 to replace roof shingles in areas not re-shingled in 2018 construction grant and to install south facing solar panels behind library.
- Oneida Public Library: $43,656 for exterior amphitheater stage cover.
- Prospect Free Library: $11,250 to construct a porch addition to the front of the building that will provide a safe, ADA-compliant entrance to the facility.
- Sherrill-Kenwood Free Library: $14,583 to install an energy-efficient combination boiler and hot water heater, electrical outlets and new circuit for power to main door.
- Waterville Public Library: $11,812 to install control panels and proximity readers at two main entry points and to install CCTV, cameras and monitor.
- Western Town Library: $45,990 to renovate the library’s lower level, transforming the former storage area into a vibrant, multipurpose community space.
“Public libraries are critical spaces that offer a variety of important services and resources to children, families, seniors and residents in communities across the state,” Sen. Griffo said. “This critical funding will help libraries in my district make improvements and undertake projects that will enhance the services that they offer and help them to flourish for years to come.”
