Addabbo Partners With American-Italian Cancer Foundation for Successful Mobile Mammogram Event in Middle Village
October 18, 2024
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. partnered with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation to host a free mobile mammogram event outside his Middle Village Office on October 13, 2024, in commemoration of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Some 21 women received a mammogram during the 6 1/2-hour event.
Mammograms can detect breast cancer at an early stage, often before symptoms appear. This early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and survival. Regular mammograms serve as a screening tool to help identify abnormal growths or changes in breast tissue. Studies have shown that regular mammography screening can lead to a reduction in breast cancer mortality rates, particularly in women aged 40 and older.
“Mammograms are a vital part of preventive health care, helping to save lives through early detection and ongoing monitoring of breast health,” Addabbo said. “Early detection can save lives, and as your elected representative, I am committed to advocating for policies that make regular screenings accessible to all."
