Abu Bekr Temple Hosts Career Day at Eagle Academy

Brooklyn, NY – On September 9, 2024, Abu Bekr Temple No. #91, Oasis of Brooklyn, Desert of New York, participated in Eagle Academy for Young Men at Ocean Hill’s Career Day. This program fostered community engagement and youth development. The gathering welcomed Senator Kevin Parker, who delivered an inspiring presentation that underscored his career as a public servant and gave the students a look into the day to day life of elected officials.
Senator Parker, who also serves as the High Priest and Prophet of Abu Bekr Temple No. #91, emphasized the pivotal role that such mentoring programs play in shaping the future. "Mentorship is not just about guidance; it's about nurturing potential and building leaders for tomorrow. As a community, we have an obligation to invest in our youth, for they are the very heart of our neighborhoods and the architects of our future," Parker stated.
Eagle Academy for Young Men at Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, under the leadership of their principal Mr. Rashad Meade is a college preparatory school dedicated to empowering young men through a rigorous academic curriculum, character development, and leadership training. Assistant Principal Isaiah Mccoy helped to facilitate the program and made sure it focused on fostering a supportive environment that promotes personal growth and academic excellence.
The Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.E.A.O.N.M.S), is a fraternal organization known for its philanthropic efforts, community service, and commitment to fostering brotherhood among its members. Founded in the early 20th century, it encourages social, educational, and spiritual development, while promoting cultural awareness and charitable initiatives. Through various programs and events, the organization aims to uplift and support the African American community, preserving rich traditions and advocating for positive change.
Abu Bekr Temple No. 91 is a local temple of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S, dedicated to serving its community through charitable activities and promoting brotherhood among its members. They emphasize cultural enrichment and fellowship while supporting various philanthropic initiatives such as their Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) Initiative, National Community Health Initiative, The Prince Hall Shriners Foundation, Inc., Imperial Shriners As Mentors (SAM), American Diabetes Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Initiative.
The SAM program is a national initiative of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S designed to connect youth with positive role models and has made significant strides in mentoring young minds. The event featured testimonials from participants, highlighting the transformative impact of the program in their lives. The atmosphere was filled with hope, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to fostering a brighter future.
Noble Kevin O. Manley, Illustrious Potentate of Abu Bekr Temple #91, also emphasized the program's essence in Shriners’ mission. "Through our SAM program, we are not just offering mentorship; we are building a legacy of resilience and resourcefulness among our youth. Each mentor is a beacon of hope, guiding our young ones toward their greatest potential," Noble Manley remarked.
The event concluded urging the community to ensure that every child has access to guidance and support. As the attendees left, they carried with them the inspiration to take an active role in their community and uplift those around them.
