Senator Kevin Parker to Host Swim 1922 Event at Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA

Brooklyn, NY- Just in time for the summer, State Senator Kevin Parker recently partnered with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.- Eta Nu Sigma Chapter Brooklyn Alumnae for their annual Swim 1922 event held at the Bedford -Stuyvesant YMCA. The event, which aimed to increase swimming participation and reduce drowning rates was a resounding success.
Swim 1922, a collaboration between Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and the USA Swimming Foundation focuses on teaching water safety and swimming skills to the community, especially in underserved communities. This year’s event featured a variety of activities, including FDNY-led CPR courses, informative sessions on aquatic career paths, and exciting prize giveaways. Olympians and sorority members were present to provide swimming lessons and share their expertise thus highlighting the program’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Senator Parker has been an avid supporter of Swim 1922 since its inception in 2009. He expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “I am honored to support Swim 1922 and partner with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.- Eta Nu Sigma Chapter Brooklyn Alumnae. This initiative not only promotes water safety and swimming skills but also strengthens our community by emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of life. I am proud to be a part of such a meaningful and impactful event.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in hands-on CPR training sessions led by the FDNY, gaining valuable life-saving skills. The event also showcased various career opportunities in aquatic fields and inspired attendees to consider these exciting paths.
