State Senator Parker Celebrates Passage of Bill Aimed at Creating Cleaner and Fairer Energy Future in New York

Brooklyn, NY - State Senator Kevin Parker is pleased to announce the recent legislative success of S2935D, known as the Just Energy Transition Act (JETA) which passed in the Senate last week. This landmark legislation represents a significant step toward a cleaner, fairer and more sustainable energy future for all New Yorkers. JETA is a comprehensive plan aimed at phasing out New York State's oldest and most-polluting fossil-fueled generation facilities by the year 2030. 

Upon the Senate's successful passage of this bill, Senator Parker remarked: "The passage of the Just Energy Transition Act is a monumental achievement for New York State. This legislation not only protects our environment but also prioritizes the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. With its safeguards of increasing public health by reducing harmful air pollution caused by outdated fossil fuel plants, JETA’s implementation will result in cleaner air and fewer respiratory illnesses in all communities. Additionally, transitioning to cleaner energy sources like wind and solar will help lower energy costs for consumers in the long run. As an added benefit, JETA's focus on redeveloping former fossil fuel sites will open doors for new community amenities such as parks, affordable housing and recreational spaces resulting in revitalized neighborhoods and stronger, more resilient communities across the state.
