New York State Senator Kristen Gonzalez's Statement on the Anniversary of the October 7th Attack
October 7, 2024
Today marks one year since the October 7th Hamas attacks. Since that day, nothing about our lives, our society, or our world, has been the same, and every day since, we’ve seen lives lost and devastation. Here at home we’ve seen instances of hate and division that have made many feel unsafe.
Today, as I sit in grief with Israelis and Palestinians who every day have mourned lives lost–people’s whole worlds–lost, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting my constituents whose families and loved ones are impacted and continue to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and return of all hostages.
As violence spreads throughout the region, we must prioritize peace, human rights, and the dignity of all people. I believe that in this next year we can honor the lives lost by advocating for a future rooted in solidarity, justice, and equality for all. I believe we can work toward a world free from bombs, where all communities can thrive without fear.
