Senator Lea Webb Allocates $200,000 to the Johnson City Fire Department

JOHNSON CITY, NY —Today, Senator Lea Webb proudly announced that she has secured $200,000 in state funding for essential infrastructure upgrades to the Johnson City Fire Department’s Station 1 at 270 Floral Avenue. These repairs will address crucial structural issues and ensure the building remains a safe and functional space for firefighters and the community they serve.

The funding will support necessary improvements, including structural repairs to the basement, which has been prone to water damage during rain or storm events. The project will also include waterproofing and reinforcing the top surface of the station, along with exterior repairs to prevent further deterioration. These upgrades are vital to maintaining a dry, secure environment for the department’s equipment and staff, allowing them to better serve the community in emergency situations. Station 1, located on the south side of Johnson City, is an essential hub for public safety in the Village, especially since the only other fire station is located on the north side.

BACKGROUND:

Established in 1889, the Johnson City Fire Department provides round-the-clock fire protection, search and rescue, pre-hospital care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors of the Village. With 29 dedicated members, the department responds to over 2,000 emergencies annually and works to prevent incidents through fire safety education and disaster preparedness training. Its Fire Prevention programs are recognized as models for other agencies in the region, and the department is the only one in Broome County offering a Juvenile Fire-Starter Intervention and Education program
