Senator Lea Webb Announces the 2024 New York State Senate Youth Leadership Award Recipients from Senate District 52

SOUTHERN TIER, NY - To close out the 2023-24 academic school year, Senator Lea Webb has announced the recipients of the 2024 New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Awards in her district. This esteemed program provides an opportunity for well-rounded sophomore, junior, and senior students to be recognized for their outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and volunteer activities. Students were nominated by an educator or school administrator and received an official certificate of recognition from the State Senate.

Ten exceptional students from five schools across Senate District 52 have been honored with this prestigious award. The 2024 Youth Leadership Recognition Award Recipients are:

Binghamton High School:

  • Edward W. Clarke, 12th grade
  • Aidan Sheehan, 12th grade
  • Maria Mustafa, 11th grade
  • Miranda Sekai Chiguma, 10th grade

Whitney Point High School:

  • Owen Standish-Warpus, 12th grade
  • Ian McMullen, 12th grade
  • Valerie Barrows, 12th grade

Ithaca High School:

  • Claire Park, 11th grade

George Junior Republic School:

  • Shannon Dunlap, 11th grade

Lehman Alternative Community School:

  • Sea Bayer, 12th grade

Whether it’s leading in the classroom, excelling on the field, inspiring through art, or lifting up the community through volunteer work, each of them have shown leadership and initiative beyond their years. These student’s achievements stand as a testament to what young people can accomplish with passion, perseverance, and a desire to make a difference. I congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition, and encourage them to keep striving for excellence."
