Today, Senator Lea Webb (SD52) announced that $55 million in state funding secured in the FY25 state budget has been allocated to all 57 counties and New York City through the Summer Youth Employment Program under the Office of Temporary Disability Assistance.
This funding includes more than $1.2 million to support the Summer Youth Employment Program in Senate District 52:
- $632,480 for Broome County to support the Summer Youth Employment Program
- $164,546 for Cortland County to support the Summer Youth Employment Program
- $430,964 for Tompkins County to support the Summer Youth Employment Program
Senator Lea Webb said, “I am pleased to announce this funding to ensure that youth from low-income families have the opportunity to earn a paycheck this summer while gaining experience and job training that will serve them on their future career paths. The Summer Youth Employment Program helps connect youth in our communities to a wide array of experiences, connecting them with entry-level jobs at places such as parks, summer camps, child care organizations, cultural centers, educational facilities, and community based organizations. I am proud that we were able to include funding for this important workforce development program in the F25 state budget.”
The FY25 Enacted Budget included an increase of $7.9 million for the program over last year to address minimum wage increases and to increase the number of participants. An estimated 20,000 youth will be able to participate this summer. To be eligible, youth must be between the ages of 14 and 20 and reside in a household with an income below 200 percent of the poverty level.
