ENDICOTT, N.Y – Today, Senator Lea Webb presented the New York State Senate's Empire Award to The Cider Mill, the highest honor bestowed by the State Senate on businesses and organizations that have made significant contributions to their communities.
Established in 1926, The Cider Mill is known for preserving the best of New York’s agricultural traditions, has a dedication to enriching the local cultural scene, and status as a treasured community landmark. For nearly a century, The Cider Mill has carried on the craft of pressing cider from the finest New York State apples, allowing generations of families to witness and enjoy this time-honored tradition. Visitors not only savor the fresh cider but also indulge in a variety of old-fashioned treats made in the Cider Mill’s kitchen such as fresh doughnuts, pies, bread and more.
"I’m honored to recognize The Cider Mill with the New York State Senate Empire Award for its lasting impact on our community,” said Senator Lea Webb. “For generations, this local treasure has been a beloved fall staple, where families and friends come together to enjoy the season. The Cider Mill is more than just a business; it’s a cherished part of our local culture, drawing visitors from near and far every year. Their commitment to maintaining this tradition makes a significant contribution to our area; while bringing joy to all who visit."
“I’m incredibly grateful to Senator Webb for recognizing The Cider Mill with an Empire Award,” said Brent Natzle, Assistant Manager of The Cider Mill. “It’s an honor to continue the tradition that was started back in 1926. Our goal has always been to preserve the unique experience that families and visitors have come to love while staying true to the values that make the Cider Mill a highlight in our community. This recognition is a testament to our dedication to providing a place where people can come together and enjoy the timeless traditions we’ve upheld for nearly a century.”
History:
In addition to its agricultural and culinary contributions, The Cider Mill has played a significant role in the cultural life of the region. Since 1976, it has housed the Cider Mill Playhouse, originally part of the Binghamton University theater program and now known as the BLAST/Cider Mill Stage. This theater has provided the community with high-quality performances for decades, including the annual presentation of Dr. John Bielenberg’s beloved adaptation of A Christmas Carol, a tradition that has delighted audiences for over 40 years.
The Cider Mill’s unique blend of history, craftsmanship, and cultural significance continues to make a lasting impact on the Southern Tier and beyond.
