(Southern Tier, NY) With the new year and start of the 2024 legislative session, Senator Lea Webb is proud to share the numerous achievements she secured for constituents in Tompkins, Broome, and Cortland counties. Through dedicated staff and a strong commitment to local issues, Senator Webb and her team were able to solve constituent cases and elevate the broader concerns of the community to the state level. Through these efforts, and with an eye towards progress for the Southern Tier, Senator Webb successfully delivered the following:
Meaningful Constituent Services and District Results
- Closed 460 constituent cases
- Over 400 meetings with constituents, local organizations, and community stakeholders
- More than 1,500 phone calls answered
- Hosted over 50 community events and community office hours
Numerous Legislative Accomplishments
- Passed 32 bills in the Senate
- Passed 23 bills in both houses
- Had 21 bills signed into law
- Passed 24 bills from the Women’s Issues Committee
- Cosponsored 230 bills overall
- Voted against tax increases 85 times
Historic Funding for Local Governments
- $20 million for local street and highway improvement
- $3 million in extreme winter recovery funding
- Over $2 million to repair potholes
- Over $6 million towards the maintenance and repair of local roads, bridges, railroad crossings, and highways.
- $15 million in Aid and Incentives for Municipalities (AIM)
Transformative Education Funding
- 12.5% Increase in Foundation Aid for a total of $500 million
- 31% Expansion of Universal Pre-K for a total of 408 new slots
- 9% Increase of School Aid, for a total of nearly $700 million
- Secured $135 million in free school lunches, helping 18 school districts receive free meal reimbursements
Supportive Funding for the Region
- $200,000 for the Western NY Building Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Program
- Over $60,000 Southern Tier Legal Services
- $285,000 for the Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer-to-Peer Services in Tompkins and Broome County
- $100,000 for Rural Health of South Central NY
- Over $13 million to SUNY Binghamton and Cortland
