Senator Lea Webb Secures $150,000 for Chenango Ambulances Services in Broome County

Binghamton, NY – Today, Senator Lea Webb announced the allocation of $150,000 in state funds to enhance the critical services provided by Chenango Ambulance Services Inc. This significant investment will enable the department to purchase a new ambulance, bolstering its operational capabilities and underscoring Senator Webb's commitment to public safety and support for first responders in her district.

Investing in our first responders is crucial for public safety, and this funding will enhance the department's operational and training capabilities. The funds secured by Senator Webb will be used to acquire a Medix Type III ambulance from VCI Emergency Vehicle Specialists. The current fleet of Chenango Ambulance Services Inc. consists of vehicles averaging 13 years old, prone to frequent failures, and requiring costly repairs and often spend weeks out of service. The new ambulance will ensure the department can reliably provide lifesaving services while enhancing patient and provider safety.

The Type III ambulance, with its increased horsepower and weight, will also significantly improve the department’s response capabilities on snow-covered roads and steep driveways during winter. The gasoline engine of the Type III ambulance is more cost-efficient and less expensive to repair than diesel engines, providing further financial relief to the department. Additionally, the larger capacity of the Type III ambulance is ideal for the department’s role as a teaching agency, accommodating larger crew sizes from the community and surrounding colleges.
