Binghamton, NY – Today, Senator Lea Webb proudly announced that she has secured $40,000 in state funds to support the vital women's health services provided by the YWCA of Binghamton and Broome County's ENCOREplus Program. This funding will bolster breast and cervical health outreach, education, and advocacy programs. As Chair of the Women's Issues Committee in the New York State Senate, this investment underscores Senator Webb's commitment to health and preventative services for women, ensuring that non-profit organizations in her district have the necessary resources to provide these critical services.
“I am thrilled to have secured this significant funding for the ENCOREplus Program at the YWCA of Binghamton and Broome County,” said Senator Lea Webb. “This funding will help ensure that women in our community have access to essential health services. Preventative care and early detection saves lives. By providing resources for outreach, education, and screenings; we are empowering women to take charge of their health. I am committed to supporting initiatives that break down barriers to care and provide comprehensive support to women and their families.”
"We are incredibly grateful to Senator Webb for his generous support of $40,000,” said Crystal Sackett, Senior Project Director at YWCA of Binghamton and Broome County. “With this funding, Encore Plus can continue our vital mission of serving over 6,000 women annually across Broome, Tioga, Chenango , and Delaware counties. This enables us to provide essential services including free transportation and patient care, ensuring that women in our communities receive the support they need."
The ENCOREplus Program offers educational workshops and assists uninsured or underinsured women in accessing free, lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings. The YWCA also provides free transportation to and from appointments, as well as child or adult care, to eliminate any barriers that might prevent a woman from attending a scheduled appointment. ENCOREplus has helped thousands of women receive mammograms through outreach and group education presentations. Last year, 30 women in our community received an early diagnosis, giving them the best chance to beat cancer, thanks to screenings provided through ENCOREplus. Additionally, 1,200 women now have peace of mind knowing that even if they receive a cancer diagnosis, ENCOREplus will be there to support them every step of the way. Furthermore, 78 women living in rural areas were able to access lifesaving screenings by overcoming transportation barriers.
