Senator Webb and Veterans for Peace Honor Phil Stanton with Tree Planting Memorial Service

Binghamton, NY – Today, Senator Lea Webb and Veterans for Peace held a tree-planting memorial service to honor the life and legacy of Phil Stanton, a beloved veteran, community member, and local advocate. Phil Stanton passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 81, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness. During the ceremony, Senator Webb presented a proclamation from the New York State Senate to the Stanton family, recognizing Phil’s extraordinary contributions to our country and the community. 

Phil served with valor and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the values of honor, duty, and patriotism. He continued his dedication to public service as a retiree from the Broome County Department of Social Services (DSS), where his compassion for the well-being of others left a lasting impact. Phil was also a devout member of Centenary Chenango Street United Methodist Church (UMC). His faith guided his actions and his spirit of inclusivity and justice shone brightly through his involvement with the Methodist Federation for Social Action (MFSA), Reconciling Ministries Network, and Veterans for Peace.

"He was a pillar of our community and was known for his care for others and his incredible spirit. This tree will serve as a living memorial dedicated by family, friends, and fellow veterans to honor his contributions. Phil's legacy of service, faith, and advocacy will remain a lasting source of inspiration, and he is deeply missed."
