July 9, 2024
Bronx, NY — Senator Sepúlveda is pleased to announce that Governor has signed into law Senate Bill S9415, extending the provisions of the Urban Development Action Areas. This crucial legislation will ensure the continued support and expedited development of housing projects for low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Senate Bill S9415 extends the expedited land use review process for Urban Development Action Area Projects (UDAAP) until June 30, 2027. This extension applies specifically to federally funded housing projects under Section 202 and Section 811, which are vital for providing affordable housing to our most vulnerable populations.
Senator Sepúlveda commented on the importance of this legislation, stating, "This extension is a significant victory for our communities. By continuing the expedited review process, we can ensure that low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities have access to safe, affordable housing. This law is a testament to our commitment to improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers."
The bill allows for the continued waiver of certain local zoning and land use requirements, streamlining the development process and reducing bureaucratic delays. This means that crucial housing projects can proceed more quickly, addressing the housing needs of vulnerable populations efficiently.
"This legislation will play a crucial role in revitalizing our urban areas, providing much-needed housing, and fostering economic growth," added Senator Sepúlveda. "I am grateful for the Governor's support and the collaboration of my colleagues in the Senate to pass this important bill."
