CATSKILL, NY — Senator Michelle Hinchey announced today that she has committed $75,000 in state funding to help cover installation costs and ADA-accessible picnic tables and benches for the Village of Catskill’s new SprayGround splash pad at Elliot Park. Spearheaded by five local residents and members of the Catskill SprayGround Committee, Teri Weiss, Brenda Vandermark, Lisa Leone-Beers, Michele Pulver, and Robin Smith, the splash pad will serve as a new outdoor recreation area and a cooling station during the summer months.

Senator Michelle Hinchey said, “I’m happy to provide funding to help Catskill create this new, ADA-accessible splash pad! This project is a testament to the dedication of five neighbors who envisioned a fun, inclusive spot for families to enjoy and make lasting memories. With the support of many local partners, the Catskill SprayGround Committee has created something incredibly special for Catskill, and I’m glad to be part of this community effort.”

Catskill Village Board President Joe Kozlowski said, “The Village of Catskill is so thankful that Senator Hinchey had the foresight to believe in these five women and this project, but also saw the need and the benefit to the community. Her funding has elevated this project.”

Natasha Law, Catskill Village Board Vice President and Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee, said, “From a simple idea to a vibrant reality, the splash pad in our small community stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of five incredible women. In just two years, they turned a dream into a destination.  Their passion and perseverance have truly made a "splash" in our community.  As always, a huge thank you to Senator Michelle Hinchey for her continued support and belief that this could be accomplished in such a very short time. The funding we received from Senator Hinchey helped lift this project off the ground, and we thank her so much.”

Catskill SprayGround Committee said, “This was a vision from the five of us, and we were able to bring that vision to fruition within two years. If it wasn't for Senator Hinchey believing in us and this project and supporting it with funding, this project would not have gotten off the ground. It was with the Senator's grant funding and funding from many local businesses, along with the help from the Village and Town of Catskill DPW departments this project was completed in a timely manner. This was a labor of love and proves that with determination, dedication and drive anything can be accomplished, especially when you have five women behind it.”
