STANFORDVILLE, NY — Senator Michelle Hinchey today announced that she has secured $50,000 in state grant funding to support a community-wide effort to reconstruct the playground at Stanford Recreation Park. The funds have been used to purchase materials and safety surfacing to bring the playground up to the latest ADA and safety standards.
Senator Michelle Hinchey said, “Playgrounds are where some of the best memories are made, where a kid’s imagination can run wild, where friendships bloom, and where families can feel safe to enjoy every moment. The revitalization of the SPARC Park Playground has been the definition of a community labor of love, and I’m so happy to contribute to this incredible effort with grant funding that has helped make the park accessible for every child and family. Building a playground is a major accomplishment, and I applaud all our neighbors in Stanfordville and nearby towns for dedicating their time to rebuilding this beloved space. It's now the perfect gathering spot for families across our communities.”
Town of Stanford Supervisor Wendy Burton said, “The re-creation of Sparc Park has been an extraordinary example of community building in our town. The completion of this enormous project is the highpoint of my service as Town Supervisor. Together, with the help of Senator Michelle Hinchey’s financial aid as well as that of Assemblywoman Didi Barrett and volunteers not only from our town but from surrounding communities as well, we have built with our own hands an A.D.A. compliant, state-of-the-art playground that will serve the residents of both Stanfordville and neighboring towns for many decades to come. I could not be more grateful to all of their combined efforts.”
Julia Descoteaux, Town of Stanford Board Member and General Coordinator of Stanfordville SPARC Park Playground Committee, said, “The support and encouragement that we’ve received from our community has been nothing short of remarkable. Our entire community has stepped up to help whether through a donation, making signs for our volunteers, or turning wrenches to build this playground for our children. When the community builds the playground, the playground will build the community, and this is what happened in our town. It’s been a truly incredible gift for our community made possible by the support of local officials like Senator Hinchey.”
