Senator Hinchey Statement on Central Hudson Rate Case Decision
July 18, 2024
KINGSTON, NY – Senator Michelle Hinchey issued the following statement in response to today’s decision by the Public Service Commission (PSC) to allow a rate increase on Central Hudson gas and electricity services starting August 1, 2024:
This is not the outcome we wanted, and it’s not what Hudson Valley residents deserve after years of suffering financial hardship and distress from Central Hudson’s corporate mismanagement,” said Senator Michelle Hinchey. “While we appreciate the PSC’s thorough review of this rate case, our main priority must be on ensuring affordable and dependable utility service for Hudson Valley residents. As our region grapples with utility providers more interested in prioritizing profits over the people they serve, it’s clear we have to continue fighting for legislation that holds these companies accountable to our communities. In the immediate, this includes signing my bill to ban estimated billing and, in the long-term, exploring the creation of a Hudson Valley Power Authority that takes profit motive out of the equation and puts energy in the hands of the public.”
