Sen. Martinez celebrates success of Teatro Yerbabruja’s summer art and theater education programs

New York State Sen. Monica R. Martinez met with members of Teatro Yerbabruja to discuss the success of its 2024 summer art and theater education programs.  The Bay Shore theater company received $20,000 in state funding through Sen. Martinez to support the programs held during the school summer break.  This arts funding was provided in the state’s fiscal year 2025 budget.

“I am proud to support programs that promote cultural enrichment within our community,” Sen. Martinez said.  “Teatro Yerbabruja’s summer student programs are intended to inspire a lifelong love for the arts from an early age, encouraging its participants to grow into well-rounded and culturally aware adults.”

Teatro Yerbabruja’s mission is to use the arts as a tool for social change, to promote professional artists, and to nourish emerging artists.  Its programs are designed to foster creativity and encourage civic dialogue. The nonprofit organization’s name is derived from "Yerbabruja," a medicinal plant from Puerto Rico that flourishes in the harshest conditions.
