New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez has named Melissa D. Mohan, Esq., as the Fourth Senatorial District’s 2024 Woman of Distinction. Mohan, a resident of Deer Park for more than 30 years, is an attorney, real estate broker, entrepreneur, and dedicated community leader. She founded Melmo Realty LLC, a full-service real estate brokerage, and the Law Office of Melissa D. Mohan PLLC, a real estate and business law firm, to better serve her community in a thoughtful and compassionate way. In recognition of her commitment to local businesses, she was elected president of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, becoming the first woman to serve in that role.
Mohan also volunteers with community-based organizations, including as chair of the Young Professionals Board of New Ground, a nonprofit that aims to break the cycle of homelessness for Long Island families and veterans; the Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Citizens Advisory Panel; and as a member of the Precinct Level Advisory Board for the Suffolk County Police Department, working to enhance the relationship and understanding between the community and the police.
"Melissa D. Mohan's dedication to her community and unwavering commitment to local businesses have made a profound impact on the Fourth Senatorial District,” said Senator Martinez. “As a business leader, entrepreneur, and advocate, Melissa exemplifies the character of a true Woman of Distinction, and I am honored to recognize her as this year's Woman of Distinction."
The New York State Senate’s Woman of Distinction program was established in 1998 to honor exceptional women from across the state who have made significant contributions in various aspects of society. Each year, honorees are selected from nominations submitted statewide, celebrating their role as trailblazers and role models within their communities. The program highlights the vital impact women have on the fabric of New York’s heritage, recognizing their efforts in overcoming challenges and advancing societal progress.
