Senator Helming Recognizes the Selection of Reliant Credit Union for the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry

Senator Pam Helming celebrated the selection of Reliant Credit Union for the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry at a special event at the financial institution’s Sodus location. The state program highlights businesses that have been in operation for at least 50 years and have contributed to their community’s history, heritage, and identity.

Reliant Community Credit Union began as a small financial institution founded by the late Donald Rhine and other members of the Wayne County Teachers Association (WCTA) in 1970. Back then,  WCTA Federal Credit Union served a small number of educators, school employees, and their families. Five decades later, Reliant Credit Union has evolved into a financial services organization with ten branches in Wayne, Ontario, and Monroe counties.

Reliant Credit Union has transformed into a regional staple and benefactor, contributing greatly to the culture and prosperity of the Finger Lakes Region.

Senator Helming said, “Reliant Credit Union has been a cornerstone of our community for generations, offering vital financial services while fostering growth and stability. Being included in the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry is a well-deserved recognition of Reliant's enduring commitment to supporting our local families and businesses. This honor celebrates not only their remarkable history but also their continued contributions to the future of our region."

Pamela Heald, Reliant’s President & CEO stated, "We are deeply honored to be recognized by New York State’s Historic Business Preservation Registry. This acknowledgment not only reflects our long-standing commitment to serving our community but also highlights the enduring loyalty of our members. Being selected to be part of this prestigious registry allows us to reflect on our legacy and celebrate our ongoing commitment to empowering financial well-being for generations to come.”

Scott Johnson, Town of Sodus, Supervisor adds, “Congratulations to all the amazing team members at Reliant Community Credit Union for being selected to the New York State Business Preservation Registry. The Town of Sodus is proud to be the birthplace of Reliant in 1970 and has continued to grow throughout 3 counties. My mother was one of the original members and I've been a member for over 45 years. The service you receive at Reliant is outstanding and I'm sure Reliant will continue to grow into the future.”
