Senate Republicans Call On Governor Hochul To Remove Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg From Office
February 6, 2024
Senate Republicans Leader Rob Ortt and Senator Dean Murray, along with members of the Senate Republican Conference, today penned a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul requesting she remove Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg from office. The letter comes in the wake of DA Bragg’s mishandling of the recent outrageous attack on two NYPD officers by a gang of migrants outside of a Times Square shelter.
This is the latest in a long line of incidents since Alvin Bragg was first elected in which he failed to properly enforce the law and prosecute criminals – including when he charged a bodega owner who was defending himself against an attacker with homicide.
“From the moment he took office, DA Bragg has thumbed his nose at crime victims, turned his back on the police and has selectively prosecuted criminals for political reasons only. His incredibly poor judgment is matched only by his unwillingness to take criminals off the streets.
“DA Bragg is failing at performing the basic duties of his position, and for the safety of all New Yorkers, you must remove him from the office of Manhattan District Attorney immediately,” the Senators wrote.
Senate Republicans previously introduced legislation to establish recall elections for District Attorneys who refuse to enforce the law and champion soft-on-crime policies.
