ROCHESTER, NY - Senator Samra Brouk (SD-55) has released the following statement regarding the Daniel's Law Task Force report:

Senator Samra G. Brouk (SD-55): “Daniel’s Law has been at the heart of my legislative work for the last three years– the tragic loss of Daniel Prude signaled to us that our state is in dire need of reforming our crisis response model. I am encouraged by the Daniel’s Law Task Force’s recommendations, as they are in line with our bill and outline the necessity of a behavioral health response for individuals in a mental health or substance abuse crisis. By involving peers as trained, culturally competent individuals in the first line of response to such crises, we will reduce harm, address complex needs, and keep our public safe. I want to thank the families and advocates who joined me in fighting for Daniel’s Law, and the Task Force members who worked tirelessly to integrate public feedback and expert input into recommendations for statewide implementation. I am hopeful that this report will pave the way to the full passage and implementation of Daniel’s Law (S2398) in 2025.”
