Senator Sean Ryan Honors Hyatt’s As January ‘Small Business Of The Month’

BUFFALO – Today, January 31, 2024, New York State Senator Sean Ryan announced that Hyatt’s All Things Creative has been selected as the 61st Senate District Small Business of the Month for January. Senator Ryan will present the company with a New York State Senate Empire Award in recognition of their commitment to keeping a family business thriving for 65 years.

Hyatt’s has been a Buffalo fixture since its founding as a 200-square foot art supply store on Franklin Street in 1959 by Charles W. Hyatt. In the decades since, Hyatt’s has expanded to become one of the largest art material retailers in the United States while also serving customers around the world. It is still family owned and operated, with the next two generations of Hyatts carrying on the legacy Charles began over six decades ago.

Today, Hyatt’s conducts in-store art demos every Saturday throughout the year at their Elmwood Avenue headquarters. They regularly give back to the community they have always called home by supporting local artists and art education programs. Their support of the local arts scene has included sponsorship of The Freedom Wall and Family Day at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, as well as donations of gift certificates to local schools and private organizations as prizes for art competitions. 

Senator Ryan will continue to highlight businesses that deserve special recognition for their contributions to the Western New York community throughout 2024. To nominate a business for the February award, individuals should fill out the nomination form here or at ryan.nysenate.gov by Sunday, Feb. 18.

Businesses that will receive special consideration during the selection process include:

• Companies that have created a culture of philanthropy and/or demonstrated exceptional leadership in the community
• Leaders in their industry and/or innovators in their field
• Promoters of economic growth in Western New York
• Family-owned businesses that have successfully passed from one generation to another
• Companies that conduct virtuous ethical practices and/or utilize green practices

To be eligible for the award, a business must be located in the 61st Senate District, which includes parts of the City of Buffalo, as well as the entireties of the City of Tonawanda, the Towns of Amherst, Grand Island, and Tonawanda, and the Villages of Kenmore and Williamsville.
