Senator April Baskin Hosts Inaugural Intergovernmental Meeting with Elected Officials

Lackawanna, NY – Before a host of elected officials, commissioners, and staff, State Senator April N. M. Baskin (SD-63) convened her first intergovernmental breakfast meeting with representatives from across her district, which encompasses parts of Buffalo, Lackawanna, and Cheektowaga. The meeting was held February 20th at the Lackawanna Senior Center.

Breakfast attendees included several members of the Buffalo Common Council, City of Lackawanna Council Members and municipal commissioners, members of the Erie County Legislature, and Cheektowaga Town Supervisor Brian Nowak. 

Senator Baskin, the former Erie County Legislature Chairwoman, in her first Senate term, is committed to understanding the challenges facing the residents of District 63. 

“This is the first of many intergovernmental forums I have planned; it affords me the opportunity to talk face-to-face with elected leaders and learn about specific issues that I can help with by utilizing state resources,” Baskin said. “My goal is to make SD-63 even stronger.”

Officials from the district discussed immediate issues that need to be addressed as well as their long-term wish list. Among the requests of Senator Baskin were the following areas of concern: 

  • Funding for district improving curbs, sidewalks, paving, enhance walkability throughout the district.
  • District-wide community park upgrades
  • Sanitary sewer rehabilitation
  • Senior and youth recreation facility expansions
  • Public works equipment to reduce hazardous weather conditions.
