On Thursday evening, over 200 constituents across Onondaga and Oswego counties gathered at Lakeside Fire Department in the Town of Geddes for the in-district swearing-in ceremony for newly elected State Senator Christopher J. Ryan’s first-term in office. The ceremony, hosted by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, was a commemoration of Senator Ryan’s previous nearly 20 years of public service on the Geddes Town Board and the Onondaga County Legislature, as well as for his union leadership of CWA Local 1123, and a celebration of what is to come. State Supreme Court Justice Honorable Rory McMahon and Syracuse City Judge Honorable Ann Magnarelli performed the Oath of Office.
“The voters of Central New York have chosen a strong and experienced leader in Senator Christopher Ryan. He has proven time-and-time again that he will put their best interests first,” New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said. “In his nineteen years as a local elected official, he has shown he can get results and reach across party lines and create bipartisan solutions that will benefit all New Yorkers.”
Senator Ryan spoke of his plans to focus on healthcare access and affordability, bolster workforce training programs, support economic development, provide resources to schools and students, and to help make life more affordable.
“It has been the honor of my life to be elected as a State Senator representing the people of Central New York,” said State Senator Christopher Ryan. “I believe my team’s success is going to be measured by our achievements for our constituents, our community involvement and the direct support my team is able to provide. Our office is your office, we are here to help and we want to hear from you.”
Attendees included Senator Ryan’s close family and friends, State Senator Rachel May, Assembly Members Pamela Hunter and Bill Magnarelli, Onondaga County Legislators Ken Bush, Palmer Harvey and Nodesia Hernandez, former Onondaga County Minority Leader Linda Ervin, former Onondaga County Legislator Monica Williams, former Chairman of the Onondaga Legislature Jim Rowley, City of Fulton Mayor James Rice and City of Oswego Mayor Robert Corradino, Deputy Mayor of the City of Syracuse Sharon Owens, as well as numerous other county, city and town officials from Central New York.
Senator Ryan represents the State Senate’s 50th District, and was officially sworn-in to the State Senate in Albany on January 8th. He has been appointed the Chair of the Senate Cities 2 committee, where he will be charged with supporting Upstate Cities. Additionally, he will be serving on the Senate committees for Energy and Telecommunications, Labor, Health, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business.
