Queens, NY - State Senator John Liu, stated the following about the passing of the Honorable Dorothy Chin Brandt, the first Asian American woman judge in New York State.
“Dorothy Chin Brandt was a true pioneer and inspiration to Asian Americans across New York State and beyond. Justice Chin Brandt’s historic achievements as the first Asian American woman judge and the first Asian American elected official in New York paved the way for generations of Asian American public officials. She took the bench at a time when the courts were not perceived as friendly to minorities, and she set out to remedy perceived bias with fairness, integrity, and impartiality. Her influence resonates today, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who uphold the values of justice, equality, and public service. My thoughts are with her family, loved ones, and all those whose lives she touched.”
