SENATOR WALCZYK CONDEMNS DIRECT ATTACK ON REPRESENTATION FOR NY-21 RESIDENTS; LAUNCHES PETITION TO REJECT POWER GRAB
February 8, 2025
Senator Mark Walczyk vehemently opposes the corrupt proposal put forth by Albany Democrats on Friday night in Bill S4588, a legislative effort that could strip 776,971 residents of the 21st Congressional District of their rightful representation in Congress for an extended period. This insidious bill would allow the Governor to move the special election date to coincide with the general election, effectively leaving the NY-21 seat vacant for 10 months instead of the usual 3.
“This is not just a bill; it’s an affront to the Republic for which we stand,” Senator Walczyk stated. “The Albany Democrat party bosses are playing political games at the expense of the people. By prolonging this vacancy, they are denying hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers a vote in Congress and someone to call if they have an issue with the federal government."
The implications of Bill S4588 extend beyond mere representation. It poses a significant threat to municipalities, non-profits, and organizations that rely on Congressional sponsors for essential grants and letters of support. Without a representative advocating for their needs, these entities will be forced to compete against 434 other Congressional Offices.
“This bill makes life more difficult for my constituents, especially those in rural areas who need access to their federal representatives,” Walczyk continued. “Senator Schumer's nearest office is in Albany or Syracuse—a 4 hour drive for some of my communities. We need access to our Congress member.”
Senator Walczyk urges all New Yorkers to join him in signing a petition rejecting this scheme and demanding accountability from their elected officials. “We will not stand idly by while Albany Democrats attempt to abuse their power and leave our communities voiceless,” he said.
