I’ve received numerous calls with concern regarding students being absent from school because of fear of deportation or fear of being used as pawns against a family member who may be undocumented. Schools should be off-limits and a safe place for everyone. Full stop. Public schools are legally required to provide all children, regardless of immigration status, with a quality education, and that’s something for which all leaders should be committed. The chaos and fear that’s being stoked is abhorrent, and I encourage anyone who agrees to call Federal representatives, especially those in the majority, and let them know that targeting schools is unacceptable."
