New York State Sen. Monica R. Martinez has been selected to chair the Senate’s Local Government Standing Committee for the 2025-2026 Legislative Session. The committee oversees legislation related to counties, cities, towns, and villages, as well as emergency services across the state. This marks the second consecutive year Sen. Martinez will lead the panel.
"I’m honored to continue serving as chairperson of the Senate’s Local Government Committee,” said Sen. Martinez. “As a former local government representative, I understand our state’s counties, towns, villages, and cities are where residents shape the vision for their communities. I look forward to once again having the opportunity to work closely with these local leaders to ensure they have the support they need to succeed."
During the 2024 legislative year, the Local Government Committee held six meetings to review more than 350 bills. Of those, 71 were reported to the Senate for consideration by the full body.
In addition to the Local Government committee, Sen. Martinez has been appointed to the Senate’s standing committees on Aging; Alcoholism and Substance Use Disorders; Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business; Disabilities; Education; and Transportation, all of which tackle issues most important to Sen. Martinez’s suburban Long Island district.
