NYS Sen. Monica R. Martinez Shares Thoughts on 2025 State of the State
January 17, 2025
On Tuesday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered the 2025 State of the State address. In her fourth such policy speech as governor, she outlined an agenda for the year that focuses on topics such as affordability, taxes, and public safety. Much of the proposals will need to be negotiated with the legislature in the coming months, especially ahead of the state’s budget deadline of April 1.
Regarding the 2025 State of the State address, state Sen. Monica R. Martinez, who represents the Fourth Senatorial District in Suffolk County on Long Island, said:
“Governor Hochul’s State of the State touched on many of the issues I hear most in my community: the affordability crisis that forces many of our friends and family to leave New York, concerns about public safety, the burden of taxes, and the need for better access to opportunities. These challenges not only strain households but also hinder economic growth by driving away the workforce our state needs to thrive and lead the nation.
“While the governor has done well to highlight many of the pressing issues confronting New Yorkers, she failed to address congestion pricing, which negatively impacts affordability and opportunity for residents throughout the downstate region. I look forward to working with my colleagues to legislatively reverse this counterproductive tax on commuters and to collaborate with the legislature and the governor on achieving these other goals without increasing costs for New Yorkers.”
