- CHIPS Funding

Senator Pam Helming recently participated in a rally alongside local Highway Superintendents and community members to advocate for increased CHIPS (Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program) funding in the state budget. This vital funding is essential for our municipalities to effectively maintain, repair, and enhance local roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure.
Senator Helming said "Safe and accessible roads, bridges, and culverts impact every single person living, working, and visiting our state. And while the hardworking men and women of our local highway departments take pride in working together to stretch limited resources and keep our roadways in working order, they are not magicians. Under the Governor's proposed budget, critical state funding known as CHIPS will remain flat, forcing local governments to cut back on many necessary projects as construction costs and the price of unfunded state mandates continues to rise. I was proud to stand beside many of our local highway superintendents and their incredible teams to call upon the state to increase its investment in this crucial program and acknowledge once and for all that our local roads are essential."
