Senator Oberacker in Committee Hearing

ALBANY, 1/15/25 - Today, Senator Peter Oberacker announced his appointments to several key committees for the 2025-2026 legislative session in the New York State Senate. Senator Oberacker will serve as the Republican Ranking Member on both the Alcoholism & Substance Use Disorders Committee and the Transportation Committee and will also serve as a member of the Agriculture, Finance, Higher Education, and Labor Committees.

“I am honored to serve in leadership roles on two critical Senate Committees and I look forward to working on the key issues that matter most to the families of the 51st District,” said Senator Oberacker. “These appointments reflect my commitment to supporting policy that improves the lives of all New Yorkers.”

Regarding his appointment as Ranking Member of the Alcoholism & Substance Use Disorders Committee, Senator Oberacker said, “The opioid crisis continues to ravage families and communities across New York State. We need a stronger, more comprehensive approach–one that prioritizes prevention and robust support for those in recovery. I will fight for policies that ensure counties are properly equipped to fight this devastating epidemic.

Regarding his appointment as Ranking Member of the Transportation Committee, Senator Oberacker said, “As New York’s roads, highways, and thoroughfares continue to crumble into disrepair, the Governor’s out-of-touch electric vehicle mandate risks devastating our highway departments. I remain committed to working alongside our local superintendents to secure the vital funding our communities need to restore and maintain failing infrastructures.”

Regarding his appointment to the Agriculture Committee, Senator Oberacker said, “Agriculture isn’t just the backbone of our region; it’s the backbone of our state. I will continue to fight for policies that support the family farm, protect their livelihoods and promote the growth of our agriculture economy.”

Regarding his appointment to the Finance Committee, Senator Oberacker said, “New York’s disturbing spending trend is unsustainable and disgraceful to the taxpayers that bear the burden. I will continue to bring decades of private-sector experience to the committee and advocate for a commonsense, fiscally responsible budget.”

Regarding his appointment to the Higher Education Committee, Senator Oberacker said, “As a proud SUNY Delhi alumnus, I remain committed to advocating for our upstate higher education institutions and will work tirelessly to secure the resources they need to succeed. We must continue to invest in the next generation.”

Regarding his appointment to the Labor Committee, Senator Oberacker said, “In order to buck New York’s disturbing outward migration trend, we must embrace bold solutions to bring jobs back and foster an environment where businesses and their employees can thrive.”
