Senator Peter Oberacker Stands with Woodbourne Correctional Officers Amid Hochul Prison Crisis
February 21, 2025

WOODBOURNE, 2/21/25 - Today, State Senator Peter Oberacker proudly stood in solidarity with correctional officers and staff from Woodbourne Correctional Facility, demanding immediate action to address dangerous working conditions fueled by the Hochul Prison Crisis.
“Enough is enough, Governor Hochul. Our correctional officers are being assaulted, exposed to lethal narcotics, and forced into grueling shifts thanks to your dangerous mandates,” said Senator Oberacker. “From bail reform to HALT, the radical Albany Democrat majority continues to prioritize dangerous criminals over the safety of our brave law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.”
Senator Oberacker is calling for an immediate halt of the HALT Act, which severely limits disciplinary measures for violent inmates, and is pushing for a full repeal of the law this legislative session.
“I firmly support a full repeal of the HALT Act,” said Senator Oberacker. “In the meantime, there should be an immediate pause so we can get our COs safely back into our correctional facilities and restore order to our correctional system.”
