Senator Rachel May (48th Senate District) was appointed chair of the Consumer Protection Committee in the New York State Senate. This committee protects consumer interests and advocates for their rights against deception and exploitation.
As the chair of the Consumer Protection Committee, Senator May is dedicated to defending the rights and well-being of consumers in New York State from unfair practices, abusers of corporate power, and fraudulent actors. She and her Senate colleagues will work to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to shop confidently and ensure that the state is there to hold bad actors accountable when necessary. By fostering a fair marketplace, the committee will also help promote economic growth and encourage businesses that operate ethically and responsibly.
“This committee’s mission is to safeguard the interests of New York State’s nearly 20 million consumers, ensuring they are shielded from unethical and dishonest practices in the marketplace. I am committed to fostering a fair and transparent economy where consumers know what they’re buying and what they’re paying for, where businesses act on a level playing field with each other, and where bad actors can be held accountable if it comes to that. I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues on the committee to ensure New Yorkers know their hard-earned money is going where they intended it to go. Thank you to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for this incredible opportunity — I am truly grateful and ready to make a positive impact,” said Senator Rachel May.
