Senator Rolison Calls for Full Repeal of HALT Act to Protect Corrections Officers and Improve Prison Safety
February 24, 2025
Following today’s press conference alongside families of corrections officers, Senator Rolison and Senate Republicans called for the full repeal of the HALT Act, citing the urgent need to restore safety and order in New York’s correctional facilities.
“As the ranking member of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction committee, I’m seeing firsthand how the HALT Act has done nothing but make our prisons more dangerous for corrections officers, staff and even incarcerated individuals. It is our responsibility to restore safety and order in our correctional facilities, protecting those who work tirelessly to keep everyone safe. Today, alongside the families of brave corrections officers, we are making it clear that Albany must act now to repeal the HALT Act and ensure safe and humane conditions in the state’s correctional system.”
Senator Rolison, a retired police officer and the Ranking Member of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, has been a staunch advocate for policies that support law enforcement and corrections officers while ensuring safe and humane conditions in the state’s correctional system.
