STATEMENT: MTA CEO’s Comments on Subway Crimes Are Nothing But Insulting
January 7, 2025
Yesterday during an interview, Janno Lieber, CEO of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), described the rise in subway crimes as being “in people’s heads” following the launch of congestion pricing – which is forcing more Hudson Valley residents to rely on public transportation to avoid the toll. In response, New York State Senator Rob Rolison (R-39) issued the following statement:
“MTA CEO Janno Lieber’s dismissive comments regarding subway crimes are deeply concerning. For him to suggest that these issues are merely ‘in people’s heads’ is not only tone-deaf but insulting. Comments like this undermine the real safety concerns that New Yorkers and Hudson Valley residents face every day in our public transportation system, especially following the introduction of congestion pricing which is forcing community members onto public transportation to avoid the outrageous toll. The Hudson Valley deserves to know their transit options are safe for everyone.”
