Senator Marcellino Announces Glenood Landing School And Saint Patrick School Winners In "i*ma*green*nation" Statewide Contest
Senator Carl L. Marcellino announced today that Marie Cortez’s Class from the Glenwood Landing Elementary School, in the North Shore School District, Craig Roslund’s Class and Mary Ann Vascotto’s Class from Saint Patrick School in Huntington won statewide recognition for environmental awareness through the State Senate’s 16th Annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION" competition.
"The Classes competed against hundreds of students from throughout New York State, and their imaginative work was judged to be among the best in the 2007 contest," said Senator Marcellino, "I know that our entire community shares my pride in our school and our young students who have shown a remarkable awareness and concern for the important environmental challenges that we all face to make our state a better, cleaner place."
The "I*MA*GREEN*NATION" Awards program was established to promote recycling and conservation and help develop awareness among students from grades one through eight. Further, it facilitates an exchange of ideas about recycling and waste reduction between schools, children and adults—stimulating creative thinking concerning these issues and possible solutions.
Marie Cortez’s Class won Second Place in the Division II Science and Technology in the competition The winning students, Julianna Capobianco, Jamie Crowley, Matthew Douglas, Lea Farell, Alexandra Fekula, Melissa Hart, Dominque Lewine-Jacobson, Steven Liounis, Antonella Malfettone, Kira Martin, Alysia Norona, Carlos Peralta, Caroline Robertson, Peter Rooney, Dylan Smith and Alex Yelon traveled to Albany May 15th for a reception and awards ceremony.
Senator Marcellino will be visiting Saint Patrick School in Huntington to present the winning students from Craig Roslund’s Class, Clayton Straub, Braden Straub, Chandler Bellistri, Blake Bellistri Patrick Goldsmith and Michael Riccardelli with their awards. He will also visit Mary Ann Vascotto’s Class winning students Kaitlian Dayton, Mary Sheehan, John Buttiglione, Katie Feighner, Ryan Goldsmith, Nicholas Kaufman, Charlotte Levinson, James Vicarri, Sabrina Blakely, Giancarlo Montuoro, Emily Shea and Annie Levinson to present them with their awards. The classes won Second Place in the Group Project Division for Audio/Video.
