BILL NUMBER:S3854 TITLE OF BILL: An act authorizing the study of fees and charges assessed to residents of assisted living facilities PURPOSE: The purpose of this bill is to authorize a study that will review the rate of the fees and charges being assessed to residents of assisted living facilities. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Directs the Office of the Aging to study the fees and charges being assessed to residents of assisted living facilities. JUSTIFICATION: Residents of these assisted living facilities should not have to worry about affording their stay in these facilities as a result of fees and charges, such as their rent, increasing a substantial amount over time. Most of the people that move into these homes are single and they budget their expenditures according to a particular amount of rent for a certain amount of years. When these residents find that the increases have changed their financial plans to the point where they can no longer afford their stay, they are left with few to no options.
