BILL NUMBER:S4684 TITLE OF BILL: An act authorizing the study of fees and charges assessed to residents of assisted living facilities PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to authorize a study that will review the rate of the fees and charges being assessed to residents of assisted living facilities Such study shall make recommendations to limit the increase of such fees and charges SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: None. JUSTIFICATION: Residents of these assisted living facilities should not have to worry about affording their stay in these facilities as a result of fees and charges, such as their rent, increasing a substantial amount over time. Most of the people that move into these homes are single and they budget their expenditures according to a particular amount of rent for a certain amount of years. When these residents find that the increases have changed their financial plans to the point where they can no longer afford their stay, they are left with few to no options. This new legislation will provide much needed information to help those residents better plan for financial security. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill.
