BILL NUMBER: S1771 SPONSOR: SEPULVEDA TITLE OF BILL: An act requiring the department of education to study and report on the self-identified ethnicity and multilingual status of all licensed social workers PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This purpose of this bill is to increase the amount of information that we have regarding the demographic and linguistic break downs of social workers. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1. Mandates the department of education to prepare a comprehen- sive study and report on the self-identified ethnicity and multilingual status of all licensed social workers.

SEPULVEDA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT requiring the department of education to study and report on the self-identified ethnicity and multilingual status of all licensed social workers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The department of education shall prepare a comprehensive study and report on the self-identified ethnicity and multilingual status of all licensed social workers. Such data shall be collected during the licensure and re-registration process of such individuals and then compiled in an easily readable format. § 2. The commissioner of education shall provide such report to the governor, temporary president of the senate and speaker of the assembly no later than one year after the effective date of this act. Such report shall be updated and delivered annually for a total of five years. § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
