African-American blood donation is the primary way to fight the complications of Sickle Cell disease. Sickle Cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects approximately 80,000 people in the United States, 97 percent of whom are of African heritage. People suffering from Sickle Cell require blood transfusions throughout their lives.
