On June 14, 2011 Senator Shirley L. Huntley spoke with housing advocates regarding the soon to be expired rent regulation laws for New York City and surrounding counties. Senator Huntley pointed toward the clock that shows when rent laws will expire, and said “thousands of families may end up homeless, or face egregious rent increases if rent laws are not extended and strengthened.” With over 15,000 rent regulated apartments in her district, Senator Huntley conveyed to the advocates that the Senate Democratic Conference will do everything in its power to push for the passage of rent regulation.
