Transportation Committee Hearing on Intoxicated School Bus Drivers
Martin Malavé Dilan
May 2, 2013
Today I joined Committee Chair Senator Fuschillo, and members of the Senate Transportation Committee to hear from a number of speakers on what New York should do to address recent incidents of school bus operators driving while intoxicated.
Last October, a school bus carrying 5 children drove into a Syosset home. The driver pled guilty to aggravated DWI charges.
How common are these occurrences? Do we need to strengthen pupil transportation laws? Should school buses be equipped with ignition interlocks? Therese are a few of the questions, and topics for this morning’s hearing.
