Andrea Stewart-Cousins
September 15, 2014
Senator Stewart-Cousins helped kick off the demolition of a building on Warburton Avenue that will make way for Phase Two of the Saw Mill River Daylighting Project in downtown Yonkers. $1 million in state funding through the Regional Economic Development Council is making the Mill Street Courtyard possible. Phase 1 of the project, completed with $8 million in funding the Senator secured when she first took office in 2007, created Van der Donck Park by removing the asphalt and the parking lot at Larkin Plaza, exposing the Saw Mill River and creating the park that surrounds the river. This project is a key catalyst to revive the downtown area with new retail, business and housing opportunities.
