Senator Bonacic Extends Heartfelt Thanks to State and Local First Responders who Battled Sam's Point Wildfire

(Middletown, NY)-State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) extended his heartfelt thanks, today, to state and local first responders who battled the Sam’s Point Wildfire in Ulster County. The fire began on Saturday April 23rd, and was declared 100 percent contained on Thursday April 28th. It consumed over 2,000 acres of forest in the Sam’s Point Preserve.

Volunteer firefighters from 91 departments in Ulster, Greene, Sullivan, Dutchess, Delaware, and Orange counties, helped battled the blaze. These local fire companies were joined in the response by, the New York State Police, the State Department of Environmental Conservation, the State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation, the State Office Fire Prevention and Control, and the State Office of Emergency Management.

“I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the men and women who have courageously battled this wildfire,” said Senator Bonacic. “Through their tireless efforts, and heroic actions, no lives were lost during this event. I want to single out all of the volunteer fire companies who went above and beyond the call of duty. Their selfless sacrifice was on display again, as many of them spend extended time away from their jobs, and families. I would also like to extend my thanks to the Governor for all of the State resources that were brought to bear during this wildfire.”
