“We have a dire situation on our hands, and this legislation makes it clear, evictions must be halted through May 1st due to financial hardship caused by the pandemic. Under my leadership, the Senate Majority took immediate action to keep New Yorkers in their homes. We gave tenants and homeowners more time to catch up on rent or their mortgage and ensured their credit is not adversely impacted. We protected property tax exemptions for seniors and people with disabilities, ensuring no one must choose between their health and staying in their home. We expect the Assembly to pass this legislation, and the Governor to sign it into law soon."
